Freedom

To my generation this has very little meaning. In fact, in my lifetime our freedom has never been threatened. On a day like today, it is good to remember and appreciate the blood, sweat, tears and sacrifice that went into assuring our freedom.
My grandfather turned 87 years old this October, and he was a medic in the WWII for the Dutch army. When Germany invaded Holland the Dutch army was left on their own as they disbanded. They were told there would be ships waiting for them in France if they could make it. So they walked for TWO MONTHS from Holland through Belgium and to the coast of France. They washed the same clothes in the river when they could and stole food from one farmer to have it cooked a few miles away by another farmer. It is hard for me to even fathom what that must have been like and I endeavour each year to remember, that the wonderful freedom my family now enjoys came at a great cost ......................... Lest We Forget.
